CoDeSys now supports the C2000/28x™ CPU family from Texas Instruments

Kempten, March 2010: Embedded devices based on the C2000/28x™ CPU family from Texas Instruments can now also be programmed with the market-leading IEC 61131-3 development tool CoDeSys.

Thousands of software engineers around the world develop their industrial application software with the market-leading IEC 61131-3 programming tool CoDeSys from 3S-Smart Software Solutions. Compilers directly integrated in the programming tool translate the controller application into native machine code and ensure maximum performance on the processors used. CoDeSys contains a wide range of such compilers for the most commonly used 16- and 32-bit CPUs.

On this year's Embedded World trade fair show, 3S-Smart Software Solutions will present the latest version of CoDeSys V3 which now also contains a compiler for the Texas Instruments C2000/28x™ CPU family with DSP functionality. What is more, with the help of a special runtime system adaptation device manufacturers can easily make their hardware programmable with CoDeSys.

The development of a CoDeSys compiler for the C2000™ family is part of a cooperation between the German specialist for automation software 3S-Smart Software Solutions and Texas Instruments which is of strategic importance for both companies. While 3S Smart Software Solutions has seized the chance to satisfy the demands of numerous customers, Texas Instruments will gain access to new markets with their MCU family. “Based on the support from CoDeSys we expect to see additional opportunities coming up for C2000™ in the industrial automation market” - Stefan Bruder, Marketing Manager EMEA for 32-bit MCUs at Texas Instruments.
